Gorm the Old - summary in English

Gorm is regarded as the first of the Danish kings' Jelling dynasty.

The birthplace of Gorm the Old is unknown.

He is mentioned in sagas as the son of Hardeknut (likely a chieftain named Knut, with the nickname "The hard one"), of whom the sources say very little.

Ifølge forskellige sagaer nævnes Knud den Harde som far til Gorm den gamle, Konge af Danmark. Han bliver nævnt i Saxo Danmarks Krønike, Roskilde Krøniken og ligeledes Adam af Bremen, samt nævnt i Islanske sagaer. Et sted bliver angivet som søn af Sigurd "orm i Øje" Ragnarson, søn af Ragnar Lodbrog. Blot er der kommet tvivl om dette oversættes korrekt. teksten blev læst som Hardeknud søn af Sigurd, men den kan også oversættes som efterkommer af Sigurd "Orm i Øje" Dette giver også et kronologisk bedre billede, men da vi ikke kan vide hvor mange generationer der går mellem Sveyn og Sigurd, vil det være fejlplaceret på nuværende tidspunkt at koble Sigurd til Hardeknud og Sveyn.!

The text was read as Hardeknud son of Sigurd, but it can aslo be translated as descendent of Sigurd "Worn in the eye" Ragnarson. This also gives a better chronological picture, but since we can not know how many generations there is between Sveyn and Sigurd it would be wrong to connect Sigurd to Hardeknud and Sveyn.
